Is there ever one best decision among others?

Why your choices are what you make of them

Life is what we make of it. And the truth is that this sounds like a lofty statement that only privileged people would make.

But I don’t think so.

I believe sometimes, we are in a very tight spot in our lives, juggling so many things at the same time, that we don’t even know if there is a way out. But if you are alive, there’s always a way out.

I’m currently working as a junior lecturer, a job I have always dreamed of. I love to teach and learn, and there is no better time to implement innovative learning for students than now. But I have been balancing this job with my craft (shoemaking) for over a year now. And a few months ago, I started making YouTube videos.

It’s not been easy.

What helps me push every day is that I enjoy doing all these. But I need to decide which area I want to focus on long term. To hone my skills properly in one direction. And that is hard.

It can be crippling to make a life-altering decision. What if I choose this and it doesn’t work out the way I want it to? Well, sometimes we are not even sure of what we want until much later in life. And it’s really not advisable to wait that long before making a choice.

So, take a deep breath, analyze all your options, and just pick one.

It doesn’t mean your choice is eternally fixed. You could change it in the future, or maybe you can’t.

But make a choice with so much resolve that you feel it in your bone marrow and know that choice must eventually pan out as a good one.

There is no perfect choice. It’s your perception of your future reality that counts. And I have like a year left to make my next life-altering choice, so wish me luck!
