Are you truly resilient?
Or are things just a bit easy at the moment?
Think of the last time you accomplished something difficult.
I mean, a time when every bone in your body felt like you should give up, but you found a way to pull through. These kind of experiences aren’t what we’d like to experience often. We like it when our job is challenging, but not too difficult.
We want to start something new, but we don’t want it to be too wrenching that we give up so fast. We want it challenging enough to be fun, but easy enough to pull through without major bruises.
But easy doesn’t make you resilient.
When I started making and selling sandals in 2018, I didn’t expect it to be easy. Still, I didn’t think it would be so emotionally draining to sell anything.
One night in 2020, I almost stopped making them altogether because someone told me that ‘what I made for them was basically rubbish’ compared to what they ordered. It took me a few hours to regain my thinking after that.
But since that day, I never allowed a customer’s comment to lead to a major setback.
Tough times will mould you into who you need to be. Following a routine without risk or adventure will keep you moving in a circle. So, whenever you next big challenge comes, embrace it with open arms, and be determined to see through it till it ends.
“If thou faint in the day of adversity, thy strength is small.”
How big is your strength?
No, don’t say it.
Prove it to yourself by showing discipline through the hardest days.
You’ll be better off for it.
